What happens to my bug report?

Bug reports go to the bughunter teams bug filtering list.
The bughunters then look at the reports in the list. This process is called "filtering".
One of several things can happen to your bug report once it is submitted:

  • It is made into a defect by the bughunter team and passed on to CCP QA.
  • It is attached to an existing defect to give more information to the programmers on a particular bug.
  • It is sent back to the originator for further information or to close.

What about trashed bug reports?

If your bug report does not contain a log file or a screenshot, or it is unclear it is very likely to be trashed. This is because the bughunter team does not have sufficient information to try and figure out what a bug report means, or how to reproduce it.

Recently there has been a change in the bug reporting system, bugs are not trashed as they used to be, but sent back to the player originally reporting it. This is generally accompanied with a word from a bughunter explaining the reason for rejecting the report. This also gives you a chance to reopen the bug report to add anything that was previously missing. Of course, if the reason for trashing the bug report is not related to missing information there is no need to reopen it.

Here we'll try and add a spiffy graphical animation that details the lifespan of a bug report. It will come soon™.
